The How and Why of Chiropractic Adjustments
Your body works at its best when your spine and bones are in alignment. When they aren’t, Dr. Monya Tavakoli (also known as Dr. Michelle) can help through chiropractic adjustments. These treatments are commonly used to treat a number of aches and pains, including back and neck pain and the tingling and muscle weakness that come with them.
What Do Chiropractic Adjustments Involve?
Chiropractic adjustments correct subluxation. This is when one or more spinal vertebra are out of alignment, resulting in loss of motion and pain. To perform the adjustments, Dr. Michelle places her hands on or around the spine and applies a short, firm thrust to the spine. This can sometimes result in an audible noise that you call a “pop,” but that chiropractors know as a “cavitation.” Cavitations relieve joint pressure through the release of built-up gases in the body.
Often patients experience an immediate feeling of relief when the spinal column is restored to its alignment. While sometimes a person can experience some muscle soreness when the spine is placed in alignment, this typically subsides within 24 hours or less.
